Living on a peninsula has its advantages, and one of them is waterfront living. The bay provides excellent inshore fishing and recreation opportunities. Here are South Tampa's best waterfront neighborhoods for those who enjoy a waterfront boating lifestyle.
Beach Park
Beach Park is on the Northwest side of South Tampa and has both open-water and canal-front homes. While the neighborhood has a long history, many of the older homes have been torn down in recent years for more contemporary structures. The northern nature of Beach Park can make getting to the Gulf a little longer, but it also offers a short distance for those who prefer to fish around the Howard Frankland Bridge or the restaurants around Rocky Point.
Sunset Park
Sunset Park is on the West side of South Tampa, and it offers open-water and deep-water wide-canal front homes with no bridge obstructions, making maneuvering large vessels easier. Sunset Park features mostly contemporary and mid-century homes. The canals are man-made and are often referred to as "fingers." The protection and the wideness of the canals make this a popular neighborhood for boat lovers.
Culbreath Isles
Also on South Tampa's west side, Culbreath Isles is one of the few gated communities of South Tampa. It has open-water and deep-water canal-front homes. The canals are ample, but not quite as wide as the Sunset Park canals. The large lot sizes and secure nature of Culbreath Isles make it one of the premier neighborhoods in South Tampa.
Davis Islands
Obviously, the island's nature lends itself to premium waterfront living. Famously, many celebrities have lived in Davis Islands waterfront homes. Open-water homes tend to command a premium price over canal-front homes, and if you get far enough back on some canals, there might be a bridge obstruction, limiting the size of the boat that may be used. Other than the marinas, all the waterfront homes with docks are on the west side of the islands. Its South Tampa location makes getting to the Gulf of Mexico, Downtown Tampa, Downtown St Petersburg, and everywhere in between a short distance away.
Harbour Island
Located next to Davis Islands, Harbour Island is just to the South of Downtown Tampa. Also, just like Davis Islands, the waterfront homes with docks are located on the west side of the island. The lot sizes are smaller than some of the other South Tampa waterfront neighborhoods. Still, the proximity to Downtown Tampa, and secure gates, make it an attractive option for some waterfront home buyers.
Westshore Yacht Club - Westshore Marina District
Located on the Southwest side of South Tampa. We put these two together because they are next to each other and offer similar waterfront lifestyles. Both have marinas, but only Westshore Yacht Club has single-family waterfront living options. Both neighborhoods are loaded with amenities, making them the ideal neighborhood for those wanting maintenance-free living.
